Resolved Question: Any improvements for my novel? (2nd story idea)?

HI im writing for my school work and im trying to get a good gothic story, please tell me how i can make this better and maybe what i could write about next as this is just the beginning. Thanks!! The rain pounded on my head constantly, yet I did not dare put up an umbrella in a storm like this. There was a flash of lightning every thirty seconds and the boom of the thunder made me jump every time. I looked again at my sodden map, but by now it is useless. The rain has soaked it through and the ink is running, I'll have to find my own way now. The strong winds are pulling my hair in every direction and making my skin feel like ice. My cheeks are stinging and my feet ache, but I cant stop now I have got to find the castle. As I walk past the old ruins of the old hospital I hear a distant howling that sends a shiver down my spine. The last thing I need now is to be eaten by wolves. I keep walking along the muddy lane, dragging on numb foot in front of the other, not sure how I am still going. Finally I reach the grounds of the castle, this means I only have one more mile. I try to recall what the lady wrote in the letter; You will reach the woods and from there it will be one more mile. Yes that's it and there was also a strict instruction which was to stick to the path. I chuckled to myself, she seemed to want to try and frighten me but that wont work. I started along the path that was apparently only one mile, but after half an hour I still hadn't reached the castle, it was just visible behind a hill. I made a mental note not to trust the lady's instructions again, and started off on a short cut, cutting through the woods. It was a bit more sheltered under the thick branches but the darkness was denser, but it didn't bother me, I was beginning to get nearer to the castle now. The warmth and food would soon be mine to enjoy. After ten minutes of walking I could see the castle much more clearly and could even make out the patterns of the bricks on the castle. I stopped and admired the size of it. That is going to be my home for the next six months. A light was on in one of the towers, I looked up at the room and got a shock when a saw a figure in the window, I could tell by the broad shoulders and lack of hair that it was a man, and he seemed to be looking straight down at me. Maybe I should get back to the path like I was told. Making my way across the rough ground I made my way back toward where the path should be. Walking briskly to try and keep warm I got nearer to the path, but I was forced to stop when something started pulling at my foot, it felt like a root except it was moving. Suddenly it got tighter around my ankle and I was pulled to the ground, and I felt my head hit something hard. I open my eyes expecting to see the green leaves, but instead there was a grey ceiling, I lifted my head and looked around there was a fire at the other end of the room and on the other side of the bed, there was a small table with a jug of icy water. I felt cold, very cold I looked back towards the fire but jumped when I saw that an elderly lady was standing there looking at me. She saw my shocked face and smiled, but her smile didn't quite reach her eyes, they had a cold, lost look and her skin looked pale and ill.
